LOVE & TRADITIONS
VALENTINE'S DAY
Valentine’s Day in Thailand is more than just chocolates and roses - it’s a celebration filled with cultural traditions, meaningful gestures, and a touch of spirituality. In Thailand, this special day is infused with customs that make it truly unique. Unfortunately we can't actually fly you to experience this first-hand, but here's a round up of a few Thai Valentines traditions.
LUCK IN LOVE
Red isn’t just a symbol of passion - it’s also believed to bring luck in Thai culture. On Valentine’s Day, it’s common to see couples dressed in matching red outfits, exchanging red roses, or even giving small red envelopes filled with lucky charms or heartfelt notes.
HIGH SCHOOL TRADITIONS
One of the most fun traditions comes from high school students who celebrate by covering each other in heart-shaped stickers! Friends, admirers, and classmates join in, placing as many stickers as possible on someone to show just how popular and loved they are.
DESTINY
Many Thais believe in destiny, and on Valentine’s Day, some couples visit fortune tellers or engage in Sai Sin string ceremonies, where a white string is tied around their wrists for blessings of happiness and love. Whether you believe in fate or just enjoy the tradition, it’s a beautiful and symbolic way to celebrate the power of love.
MAKING IT OFFICIAL
Special mass marriage registration events take place in various districts, particularly in Bang Rak (District of Love) in Bangkok, where couples officially register their marriages. Some even take part in underwater weddings in Trang, making their vows beneath the sea for an unforgettable start to their married life!
